Project Overview
A visual IoT network engineering web tool developed for smart-building automation teams to design, visualize, and monitor wireless sensor mesh networks on architectural floorplans.
Key Challenges & Objectives
Building automation engineers previously used static spreadsheets and hand drawings to place sensors, leading to RF dead spots and costly installation rework. The goal was to build a fluid, browser-based graphical CAD and heat-mapping tool capable of handling hundreds of sensors simultaneously.
Architecture & Implementation
Constructed with React and an optimized HTML5 Canvas / SVG vector manipulation layer. Utilizes Zustand for high-speed client-side state transitions, complex geometric polygon intersection algorithms, and RESTful telemetry ingestion pipelines.
Core Features & Deliverables
- Floorplan Import & Scaling: Drag-and-drop architectural blueprints (SVG, PNG, CAD renders) with interactive measurement calibration tools.
- RF Mesh Heatmapping: Real-time wireless signal coverage simulation calculating walls, attenuation barriers, and optimal gateway placements.
- Sensor Topology Configuration: Visual node placement, sensor grouping, zone triggers, and battery longevity estimates.
- Automated Bill of Materials (BOM): Instant export of hardware counts, cabling specs, and installer checklists in PDF and CSV formats.
Business Impact & Results
Accelerated facility IoT deployment planning from 3 days down to 45 minutes, adopted by leading smart-office developers to deploy tens of thousands of IoT nodes.
